ANOTHER RACE, SAME RESULT
Just returned from Washougal and wanted to give you a few photos and thoughts before I head off to Atlanta for more OLN coverage.

Going back to Denver was a success. I saw Mr. Kenworthy riding around on a 4-wheeler helping out (Denver took the place of his Troy, Ohio race) as well as Mr. Beasley who runs Budds Creek. I don’t know if other promoters are always there and I haven’t noticed, but it’s nice to see everyone chipping in to make the nationals successful. The track was good and the dirt was even better. I guess it must have been a hike for spectators to get to the track from their cars, but the event made up for it I hope. Just as I was thinking the only thing missing where some jets doing a flyby, a couple of F-16’s flew by! After the first 125 moto they came by again even lower. Whoever set that up is all right with me. I’m assuming it isn’t easy to have fighter jets come by during opening ceremonies, so when they do it validates MX as the major sporting event we all believe it is.

The Motocross Des Nations team was announced there. RC, Kevin Windham and Mike Brown have been chosen to take on the world. RC had his usual perfect day, but was actually challenged a little bit by Kevin, which was confirmation that he is a good choice for this year’s team. Brown suffered lousy starts and lost his points lead, but he is still a title contender.

Tedesco finally got his first national win, and Andrew Short is knocking on the door. Short’s Broncos helmet was a nice touch too. Some of the players were there to watch and sign the helmet afterwards.

Washougal looked like it might be Short’s first win, but Tedesco dug deep to get by him for the first moto win. That effort as it turned out was what he needed to win his second national in a row and postpone Short’s first win. Hepler was fast, but a mistake in the first moto cost him the overall.

In the 250’s, RC grabbed the holeshot and held a 15 second gap over Kevin. It looked like Kevin was faster, but Ricky owned him. The second moto looked like it might finally be a problem for Ricky who seemed to be having bike issues, but everything cleaned out after a lap. He passed Fonseca AND Kevin in the mechanics area for the lead and that was that! The 250 class had a weird vibe without Stewart and Reed who bumped his head too. It must be hard for those guys to sit at home and know how much easier it must be for Ricky to extend his win streak, but it also demonstrates how solid Ricky is to stay clear of injuries and setbacks.

Stay tuned for another gallery of photos. These were shot by my friend Trent Howies
